Tuxedosam Milkshake

Let's celebrate our Friend of the Month, Tuxedosam with a yummy and supercute summer milkshake!
Hi! My name is Kate O’Leary and I'm a lover of all things sugar and color!  I have created a wonderfully whimsy Instagram space (@K8oleary22) that informs, inspires, and entertains all the creative souls out there. My favorite things to do are travel (the further the better) and create colorful concoctions, while on a never ending mission to find the most sugar-filled treats the world has to offer!
That said, join me as I teach you step-by-step how to create this Tuxedosam supercute milkshake jam packed with all the sweetest flavors... and even an edible icon of our favorite little penguin friend!
Let's get started!
Tuxedosam Ice Cream Sandwiches
Cookies
ingredients
  • 2 sticks butter (softened)
  • 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 drops blue food coloring
Supplies
Start by creaming together butter and powdered sugar.  Next add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until the egg is thoroughly incorporated.  On medium speed, slowly mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt.  Keep mixing until the dough no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl.  Remove about 1/4 of the cookie dough and set aside.  Add the blue food coloring to the remainder of the dough and mix until the color is even throughout.  Refrigerate both doughs for 1 hour.
Next, on a surface dusted with flour, roll out the cookie doughs about a 1/4 thick.  Using the cookie template and a butter knife cut the blue colored dough into the shape of Tuxedosam.  Use your heart shaped cookie cutters to cut hearts in the uncolored dough.  Place the cookie cut outs onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 400 degrees for about 10 - 12 minutes.  Let cool overnight before icing.
Royal Icing
ingredients
  • 2 lbs (one bag) of powdered sugar
  • 5 Tbs meringue powder
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 - 3/4 cups of warm water
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Pink food coloring
  • Black food coloring
Supplies
  • 4 piping bags
  • electric mixer
Begin by placing the powdered sugar and meringue powder into a large mixing bowl.  Next stir water and vanilla extract together. Using the lowest setting on an electric mixer, slowly add the water mixture to the powered sugar and meringue and combine until it reaches a honey like consistency.  Increase the speed on the mixer to a medium speed and whip until soft peaks form.
Divide the icing into 4 bowls.  Put one bowl aside, which will be your white icing.  Add the yellow, pink, and black food coloring to each of the bowls and stir until the color is evenly distributed.  Next, pour the icing into piping bags with the tips of the black, yellow, and pink bags snipped about  1/8”.  Cut the tip of the white icing a little larger to about 1/4”.
Start with your white icing and draw a large circle for Tuxedosam’s belly and create the shape for his little hat.  Next grab your yellow icing and draw a small ellipse for the beak and two more for the feet.  Now switch over to your pink icing and pipe Tuxedosam’s bowtie under his beak and add in the ribbon details of his hat.  Lastly, using the black icing bag create two small oval eyes.
Grab your heart shaped cookies and the pink icing once again.  Outline the shape of the heart and fill the center so you are left with solid pink hearts.  Let icing dry over night.
Cookie Sandwiches
ingredients
  • 2 Tuxedosam Cookies
  • 3 scoops party cake ice cream
Supplies
  • Parchment paper
  • 1 wooden skewer
Now for the best part!  Take two of your complete Tuxedosam cookies and lay out onto parchment paper.  Scoop three large servings of (slightly softened) ice cream onto one of the cookies.
Next, top with the second cookie and press down so the ice cream center is slightly flattened and cookies adhere.  Insert wooden skewer into the bottom center and chill for 1 hour or until the ice cream is hardened.
Tuxedosam Milkshake
Milkshake
 ingredients
  • 4 scoops party cake ice cream
  • 1 c. milk
  • Whipped cream
  • Sprinkles
  • Pink melting chocolates
  • 5 jumbo marshmallows
  • Cherry
  • Tuxedosam Ice Cream Sandwich
Supplies
  • 1 paper straw
  • Blender
  • Milkshake glass
  • Rubber spatula
  • Glass bowl
  • 3 wooden skewers
Start by placing 3 large scoops of vanilla ice cream into a blender.  Add in the milk and blend until creamy.  Pour into a tall wide rimmed glass.  Get your Tuxedosam ice cream sandwich from the freeze and place into the milkshake glass along with the jumbo marshmallows.  Next place your pink melting chocolates into a glass bowl and melt in the microwave for two minutes, stopping every 30 seconds to stir with a rubber spatula. Now pour the melted chocolate over the jumbo marshmallows and decorate with a few of the heart cookies.  Save a little bit of the chocolate to attach wooden skewers to three of the heart shaped cookies.  Insert the heart cookies into your milkshake and decorate with sprinkles.  Lastly, add a little whipped cream and top with a cherry!  Enjoy your masterpiece!
